Nakaaya Wins The 2011 Sunline Stakes

March 25th, 2011

Nakaaya has won the 2011 Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley by a nose in Race 6 at Moonee Valley tonight March 25, 2011.

The four-year-old mare had a brilliant start to the $200,000 race after she flew from the barriers to secure herself a perfect position early in the running.

The Tiger Hill mare followed behind Red Flair, who held the lead from the early stages of the Group 2 Sunline Stakes and rounded the home turn half a length in front of Platinum Passion, who was hot on the leader’s tail.

Lady Lynette had the worse run of the race, being disappointed for a run on multiple occasions, ultimately costing her the win.

Lady Lynette, who finished second by a nose to Nakaaya despite her lack of luck in the race, lodged a protest against the winner, which was eventually dismissed.

Platinum Passion finished the 2011 Sunline Stakes in third position behind Nakaaya and Lady Lynette.

This was Nakaaya’s fifth win in 11 starts and the four-year-old’s first Stakes race win.

Nakaaya was paying odds of $18.50 for the win at Luxbet.

The winning mare will now head to another of the most prestigious races on the horse racing calendar; the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes on April 16, 2011, at Morphettville.
